Helen and her war starting.

Authors Note: I wrote a text analysis short response on 2 stories.
In the original story, "Trojan Horse" , one of the characters, Helen, was starting the Trojan War.  In the modern Version of "Trojan horse", Helen was flirting wit Paris.  This started a war.  Many things in the original seem to be true but in the remake, they're just stupid.  In the remake, they are also starting this war for fun.

Some of the things that are different are; Helen was not a valley girl in the original, and in the remake she was a total boy crazy valley girl.  Another thing that is different is they did this war for fun in the modern version, in the original it was serious.  Personally, I think that it was a good remake, because I like the more modern stories that us teenagers can connect to.

Stolen, Abused, Hurt.

Authors Note: I wrote a Piece for my conflict and resolution goal, Enjoy(:

When People have problems in life, they are usually conflicts.  Some people don’t know how to resolve their problems.  The main character in Stolenby Lucy Christopher  was Having a pretty good life, until this man, Ty, kidnapped her and conflicted her life.  Ty caused conflicts by; Gemma being taken away from her family, being brought to a desert,  and being forced to love him.

When Gemma woke up and realized she had been kidnapped she first didn't mind it.  Later on, her kidnapper, Ty, forces Gemma to love him.  This caused many conflicts, for instance; Gemma refuses to love a 40 year old man and she didn't want to lose her virginity to somebody she didn't love.  Ty also separated Gemma from her family.

Gemma looked for the best way to resolve her getting kidnapped, then she decided that she should just run. Later on, a helicopter found her stranded in the middle of a desert dehydrated, weak and beaten.  Soon they found Ty and they arrested him.  This helped resolve Gemma being kidnapped.

Even though Gemma was saved and her conflict was resolved,  the damage Ty did is permeate.  Not only does Gemma have physical damage,  but mental damage.  Gemma continues on with her life and having nightmares often about her time with Ty.

Abuse

Authors notes: I wrote a text analysis essay explaining abusive relationships with one of my favorite books and real world situations.
Relationships are hard.  89% of people agree that their relationships with their partners usually don’t work out.  Whether  it involves abuse; verbally or physically,  drugs and alcohol, or hardships, the character, Kaitlin from Dreamland, By Sarah Dessen  can relate to all of them.  Abusive relationships are very difficult for anyone to get out of, especially when you grow a bond and become attached.  It’s not just characters in fiction/ non fiction novels that get themselves into a tremendous abusive relationships, its people in the whole world that deal with this harshness every day.

First of all, In dreamland the main character Kaitlin receives abuse from her boyfriend Rodgerson, but doesn’t know how to get herself out of it.  An example is the quote from Kaitlin’s point of view: “Now I felt like I was drifting, sucked down by an undertow, and too far out to swim back to the shore.”  That quote shows that Kaitlin is getting dragged into a horrible relationship and she’s already too deep in love to pull herself away.  Another quote told by the authors point of view; “ Kaitlin finds herself in a constant menace, a trap that is baited with love and need.” That quote shows that Kaitlin needs this abusive relationship because she is attached.

Second of all,  Abusive relationships are spreading so fast into the world that people actually think they are okay! The statement/fact; “As violence becomes more and more prevalent in our world, one out of every five teenage girls in America will be beaten by a dating partner.”  That shows that abuse is spreading very fast throughout  the world. The other fact; “one third to one half of married women will be victims of abuse.” That’s crazy!  People need to realize that if anyone ever hurts you, get away from them before its gets serious and permeate.

Last, there are so many ways that characters can make text to world connections. Kaitlin and women in the world are alike by being abused by characters and humans.  Most people believe that abuse is wrong and they would never get into a relationship like that. For the women that do get themselves into those relationships, there are ways to let go and get help. Some ways that people tend to get out of abusive relationships, are talk to people they trust.

Ribbons Responce

I think that people should not want to change things about themselves because everybody is perfect in their own ways.  People also have very different cultures. The grandmas culture is very different from the American culture, because they live In different parts of the world.

I think its fine if people have there own culture, but I just think people shouldn’t criticize other people on there culture.  Obviously people are not going to be all alike, but that’s what makes everyone unique!

After You My Dear Alphonce

Authors Note: This is an text analysisresponse to a short story we read in class.

In the story, "After you my dear alphonce", by Shirley Jackson, Has a basic plot line of the 1940's. The point is to show racism  and i think that's what the author is trying to get through to us. Most of the text in this story is showing a mother having racism towards a little African American boy, named Boyd. Its not the typical racism many people would think, it’s a being overly nice racism.

For example; the quote, "As she turned to show Boyd where to sit, she saw he was a Negro boy, smaller than Johnny but about the same age", shows that she saw that he was a little African boy and thought to herself, oh I'm going to be very nice to this little boy, because he is not as wealthy as us and offer him some things just because he is African American.

In this short story, the mother thought that Boyd's family was less wealthy than hers, so she was being nice and trying to help but little did she know that Boyd's family was just like hers. The text analysis that the author put in it actually helped me understand the story better, because when she thought she was right, she was wrong.  For Example; when the mother said, " I'm not mad I'm just disappointed", shows that her inferences were wrong on him.

There were so many ways that text analysis did help make the story better, with it going from happy and caring, to disappointed and wrong. The author showed how to text cote the important parts of this story, and it helps people understand better.

Response to A clean/ Well lighted place.

The director showed his thoughts because the old man drank alot of brandy and stuff. it looked like the young waiter was actually saving the old man from being hurt. because he refused to give him the randy.  the director showed his thoughts by seeing the old waiter just sit there and watch what happened.

The lighting in this actually showed the old man just sitting there all alone.  I felt bad that he was sitting all alone getting drunk.  I didn't really get the point of a lighted place? Anyways. it was an OK story. Not anything i'd really read.

Response to A clean, well lighted place

In this story there were weird characters one of the things that I looked at and thought about was when they said "It was nothing" that shows that he doesn’t trust the person he was talking too.  Mainly trust is very important in life. If he cant trust him then there's something really wrong with their relationship. Trust is very important.

Dreamland

Authors Note: I wrote an point of view piece on one of my favorite books.

Inside the novel Dreamland, By Sarah Dessen, It is told by main character Kaitlin’s point of view, which may really affect the readers thoughts on some things. She has had a very rough life ever since her only sister, Cass ran away from home on Kaitlin’s 16th birthday. Then  Kaitlin’s boyfriend, Rodgerson abuses and he makes her lose connection from her best friend Rina.  That’s not it, Kaitlin’s parents are so tied up on Cass running away, that they almost forgot about Kaitlin.

On the other hand, Kaitlin joins the cheerleading team, she only did it because that was one of the sports her mother enjoyed Cass doing and she wanted to get her mother’s attention.  After their first football game, Kaitlin went to the after party.  She couldn't keep her eyes off this shadowed boy named  Rodgerson. As soon as he talked to her, he offered a ride home. She could refuse the offer, but she got so tied down into his secretive personality that she had to find out more.  As soon as Kaitlin arrives at her house, Kaitlin gives him a sheet of paper with her phone number on it and gives him a kiss goodbye. This just kept Rodgerson wanting her more.

In addition, Kaitlin and Rodgerson start seeing each other more, getting attached, and getting abusive.  Kaitlin can’t see her friends, and when she does, there are always punishments for her.  These punishments are from Rodgerson, they go verbal to physical.  Mainly the reader would think that if this guy is going to beat a woman, then he’s a woman beater.  Rodgerson’s actions  changes  the readers attitude on how they really feel about him.  At first he seemed sweet and shadowed, but in reality, when you really get into the book  he is scary and abusive.

Equally important Rodgerson’s point of view might be slightly different.  Rodgerson might have been protecting  Kaitlin to not make the same mistake Cass made and run away.  Rodgerson just wants to be Kaitlin’s first majority.  When Rodgerson got arrested for doing drugs and beating a woman, he proclaimed that he was having a lot of emotional periods with his family.  During these times, Rodgerson’s Father beat him and Rodgerson’s parents got into very bad fights, so Rodgerson beat and threatened Kaitlin to get his anger out.

In conclusion, things do work out in the end for Kaitlin and Rodgerson was put in jail. Kaitlin has spent the rest of her high school years in a mental hospital.  Ever since her sister ran away it caused Kaitlin to be a little crazy, but Rodgerson calmed her down.   Mainly it depends on the reader if they like or don’t like the point of view a story is told from.

Without you (Figurative Language)

Without you.
David Guetta

Authors Note: I connected Figurative Language to a poem/song By David Guetta in an essay form.

Without You.
David Guetta

I wont run, I wont fly
I will never make it by,
Without you

I can't look, I'm so blind
I lost my heart, I lost my mind
Without you,

I am lost, I am vain,
I will never be the same
Without you.

Analysis-

Without You, By David Guetta is such a powerful song with meaning and language.  David showed how Figurative Language ads to this poem by the type of personification and hyperbole's he used. He connected his thoughts by writing a poem to this other person that he has strong feelings for.

As the author says "I wont run, I wont fly, I will never make it by, without you" He shows that he needs this one specific person to guide him through life.  Just by reading these three stanzas you can tell that his analysis shows personification because he is directing this to one other person.

Throughout the poem the author shows an amount of hyperbole's.  For instance: "I can't look, I'm so blind, I lost my heart, I lost my mind, without you".  The author isn't going to lose his eyesight, he is using sarcasm and hyperbole's to show his figurative language and caring voice.

In conclusion, there are many ways that figurative language shows throughout this poem. The author has his own way of showing and connecting himself to others, because most people understand the message that he is trying to get through.

Ty's Thoughts

Authors note: This is an point of view piece on the novel Stolen.

In the Beginning of the the Book Stolen, by Lucy Christopher, most people can immediately tell that its from the main character, Gemma’s point of view. She formed her thoughts by keeping and updating a diary. She would show her hatred towards the other main character, Ty. Ty drugged and kidnaped Gemma, so automatically Gemma thought Ty was Ignorant, rude, and disrespectful. Has Gemma ever thought about Ty’s feelings and how he might have felt about the whole situation?

Ty had a sad childhood. He didn’t grow up in the right environment. He was involved with drug addicts, alcoholics, and bad influences. So to him, drugging, kidnapping, and raping wasnt all that bad. Ty felt that if he could feel love, it would make up for his horrable childhood.

Gemma thought that Ty I was a horrible person. She cannot bear to stand him. As she wrote in her diary, she thoroughly explained how rude he was to her, how he hurt her, and how he took things from her that she wanted to save for when she was in love with someone. Ty gave her horrable memories that will haunt her for the rest of her life.

Ty needs to realize that forcing love isn't going to make up for your childhood, love is with two people, not one. As the conclusion of Ty's horrible mistake, he soon knows that all Gemma wants is to be let go and back to her family. Ty soon get psychological help and realizes that that's all he needed.

Compare and contrast

Authors Note: I wrote an Compare and contrast on two characters very alike.

I wonder why in so many different novels there are people that are alike.  For Instance; Cole, From Touching Spirit Bear, and Ty from Stolen are very alike.  They like to be bad humans and rebels, but is that a really good way to get through life?  Life lesson; Listen to yourself and not what society makes you.

Cole had a very Rough life; He grew up by not being raised that good. For example; Cole beat up an innocent boy named Peter.  He really had no idea to do it.  Just wanted to be bad. Ty for instance; He didn’t have that great of a childhood so he always had this sadness inside of his brain that caused him to force love. For example; He met this girl named Gemma and he drugged her, kidnapped her, and stole her from her country. He forced her to love him; even though she refused,  he would make her love him.  These humans  compare themselves to being bad and dangerous.

As I reached the middle of these books I noticed that there was something that caused Ty and Cole to become better people and free themselves.  When Cole beat up peter his Punishment was that he was shipped to an island.  On that island he Came upon a Mythological Creature, A spirit Bear.  This bear beat him up.  He was in for a real punishment.  Ty, he was punished by Gemma running away and getting back to her own country.  These things actually show these characters that there is a better thing in life than doing the wrong choice.  These characters contrast themselves by getting hurt. They got hurt in different ways but both of them still got hurt.

As I reached the ending of these books I realized that everybody learns something new.  Ty learned to search for love and not force it. And Cole learned to be nicer to people.  Both of these people are now considered real humans. Even thought they made mistakes it is still possible to go in the right path.

What my Mother Doesn't Know

Authors note: I wrote a Compare and contrast piece on What my Mother Doesn't Know.
Many novels show differences and similarities between characters and settings but the novel What My Mother Doesn't Know, by Sonya Sones is by far the most miraculous book I've read of 2012.  Sophie is a freshman in high school who’s struggling with all the crushes that come along the way of education. Sophie’s mom on the other hand is a very formal and religious, she would never have time to have a high school crush. Throughout the novel she is training Sophie that an education is more important than having a relationship, Sophie thinks different, she thinks she can do both and be on top of the honor roll, but I think Sophie should listen to her mom, because everybody says “Older is wiser”.

There is a distinctive plot for every setting, for example; When Sophie gets into a car with her best friend and meets this boy named Dylan, and she instantly falls in love with his eyes. She actually feels that this muscular, hansom, tall boy would be a good boyfriend.  As soon as Sophie brings him home so Sophie’s mother can approve him, she doesn't. Sophie doesn't get why her and her mom are so very different with boy problems.

Therefore most settings  revolve around the characters and their needs and thoughts.  For example; when Sophie meets Dylan the mood was soft and sweet.  When Sophie is in trouble with her Mother, the setting dooming and scary.  These settings actually cause the readers to think differently about the characters were reading about.

All though, I am sticking to my first impression on what I thought about Sophie, and how she needs to relax with her temper a little, and leave the boys behind. Education is more important than a boyfriend in High school.  The  most important reason why Sophie needs to stay on track, is because she’s young.

Authors note: I wrote this just based of a short love story.
It’s mid- afternoon, and the high school students are ready to burst the doors open, to trample into their cars, and go to the Friday night party.  Streaming skies, bright guys, and the best thing of all is to love and enjoy your life while you’re young, wild, and free!  Most people might find a party like this obnoxious, but these talented teenagers think of it as a front cover to a new fresh novel especially Georgia.

Love is a powerful gift; don’t waste it all on one guy.  Georgia has had a crush on Robbie for two years.  I say get over it, it won’t work if you don’t have anything in common but if you have true feelings that fill up your heart then you should follow those thoughts!  As Georgia makes her way through all the jealous girls she thinks life might change from being shy and insecure to dark and does not care what people think of her.  She will follow her heart of witch choice to choose.

Ugh! I can’t even picture living how Georgia lives!  Being a teenager and living how an adult lives.  I would like to enjoy my teen years and not waste them all trying to impress one boy.  Georgia can do better than a guy that doesn't want her for her personality.

9/11

Regular work morning, just like any other workday, but this day was a frightful, unforgotten, and horrid moment. I had to hold my head high and make my way through the pain of seeing mostly everyone that brightened my day dead.  It was a cloudy day for nature and family's throughout the United States.

As I sat there in the north World trade center at about 8:50 I saw a big sheet of metal flying 4 floors above mine. I didn’t know what to believe or think.  All the sudden vibrates from the top floors all the way down to the very bottom. Everyone watches the glass from the windows fall shattering to the ground. As soon as I realized that a plane had hit us, everyone was already panicking by the sirens on the streets and the big puffs of smoke forming from the planes jets.

Going down the tight crowded stairs we were stressed by a firefighters voice,  "RUN, RUN HURRY UP OTHERWISE WE WILL ALL BE DEAD"! Most of us adults were acting like little children pushing and shoving to get out of the building as soon as possible. As I was about halfway down from my floor, I look up and see big sheets of concrete, metal, and glass falling towards all of us. Screaming, shouting, and howls as the top floors were falling on top of us piling us in-between, underneath, on top of, and inside of the building.

Soon I realized that I was on the sidewalk right outside the North world trade center, I saw an opening of light as I crawled my way out I saw smoke, dead bodies, ambulances, and cop cars.  The most frightening thing I saw was my boss that I connected with so much laying right by me smashed between two slates of concrete, dead.

By the time I realized what was going on it was about 10:30. where was the south tower? I wondered. I looked around  but the dust is so powerful I couldn’t open my eyes.  As soon as I could slightly open my eyes, my left eye refused to open.  All the sudden I was lifted on to a stretcher and traveled by 4 men quickly to a ambulance.

I can't remember much from the ambulance ride, but I remember seeing white lights out of my right eye.  As soon as I woke up in the hospital the nurses told me what happened if I already hadn't known since I experienced it. As soon as the doctor came in telling me what conditions I had, he announced that I was permanently blind out of my left eye.  I was shocked, but grateful that I survived the attacks of 9/11 2001.

The Clique (Retelling)

Authors note: this a retelling of The Clique, the reason why i chose this book was because i think it shows girly thoughts.

The book The Clique, by Lisi Harrison is one of those books that you can't help but jump into! I found myself loving this book for so many reasons! The characters are so updated in their social life that it's actually fun to read about.  Seeing  myself laughing at their silly thoughts and feelings. As a girl, I really enjoyed the fashion and beauty in this book as well. Also I felt like I was shopping with the girls and gossiping about the latest drama at school.  Personally, I really enjoyed this book and found it out to be a very girly novel!

Flipped.

Authors Note: I did an Contrast and Compare essay on the Novel Flipped, because it shows a different point of view and I thought it would be good to do an essay on this.

Between me and the novel "Flipped" by Wendelin Van Draanen I visualize that the characters, settings, and actions are all unique in there own special way.  For instance; the characters like to show their own different personalities and take risks, that’s why I think this is such an magnificent novel.

"Flipped" shows an different point of view between a neat, clean, and popular boy named Bryce, and a tomboy, pigtailed, and sassy girl named Juli.  As these very different people communicate by living on the same road, Bryce realizes that Juli is creepy and that she has a major crush on him.

There are many differences between Juli and Bryce.  Juli's idea of fun is catching frogs in the swamp and digging up worms in the dirt, keeping them in her pocket for the night.  On the other hand Bryce enjoys playing catch with his father and reading long novels, mostly involving wizards.  As much as Bryce wants Juli to get off his case, she will not let him be. She insists that they are perfect for each other.  Juli complains to Bryce "we're both fourteen!", and even though they have that in common, he resists o pay attention to her obnoxious acts.

As these characters grow farther apart they realized that it actually wasn’t meant to be. As much as Juli wants Bryce to be her boyfriend, it doesn’t happen.  But the story did show a different point of view between different characters and I enjoyed this Novle a lot.
